Beginner Encaustic - Playing with Hot Wax
(Currently there is a wait list)
Intrigued by the art of encaustic? Explore the foundations of encaustic painting – what it is and how to layer the encaustic medium to create layers of luminosity, texture, and colour. You'll learn beginner encaustic techniques such as inclusion (image transfer), accretion (texture), sgraffito (carving), and scraping. You will learn how to apply encaustic paint (colour) as well as the technique of fusing and achieving both a smooth and a textured wax surface. By the end of this 1-day workshop, you will complete your own encaustic creation of a beautiful prairiescape. Max 8

Next Steps - Playing with Photos and Hot Wax
(This class requires you to have taken an encaustic class previously and have an understanding of beginner techniques.)
I will guide you through the process of incorporating photos printed on tissue paper into a textured encaustic base. We will review the application and fusing of the wax surface, then take it further and use other tools to create unique textured surfaces which we will enhance with colour through the application of encaustic paint, oil sticks, and other media.
